OU women head to national meet

WINFIELD — The Ottawa University women’s cross-country team qualified for the NAIA national meet with its runner-up finish Saturday in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference meet in Winfield.

Since KCAC is the host conference, two teams qualified for nationals, which will be Nov. 23 at Rim Rock in Lawrence.

WINFIELD — The Ottawa University women’s cross-country team qualified for the NAIA national meet with its runner-up finish Saturday in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference meet in Winfield.

Since KCAC is the host conference, two teams qualified for nationals, which will be Nov. 23 at Rim Rock in Lawrence.

It was a photo finish for the team places as Kansas Wesleyan nipped Ottawa by a point for the title. Southwestern was just three points behind Ottawa.

The Lady Braves had two runners earn KCAC honors. Chelsea Fullerton finished fifth and Jordan Calderwood placed 14th. The top 15 runners earn all-KCAC.

Janelle Bailey placed 18th for the Lady Braves. Ottawa’s lone senior Jena Richardson took 20th.

The men’s squad finished seventh with 167 points. The University of Saint Mary won the title with 41 points. Southwestern was second with 47.

Ottawa’s Jeo Mendez finished 14th, earning KCAC honors. Cole Carlson placed 20th. Caleb Love took 41st and Ethan Van Zant, 47th.
