OU spikers swept in first round

PLAINVIEW, Texas — The Ottawa University volleyball team had its eight-match winning streak snapped Saturday in the opening round of the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Tournament in Plainview, Texas.

No. 19 Wayland Baptist University swept the Lady Braves 25-15, 25-15, 25-21 at the Hutcherson Center.

PLAINVIEW, Texas — The Ottawa University volleyball team had its eight-match winning streak snapped Saturday in the opening round of the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Tournament in Plainview, Texas.

No. 19 Wayland Baptist University swept the Lady Braves 25-15, 25-15, 25-21 at the Hutcherson Center.

Ottawa was led in kills by senior all-conference performer Nicole Gingery with nine on 25 attempts for a .200 hitting percentage. Senior Taylor Bridge finished the three-set match with seven kills.

Junior Allie Arnold tallied six kills. Christa Hill led Ottawa in assists with 13 and Lindsey Widen finished with 10. Haley Thompson paced the Lady Braves nine digs.

Ottawa came on strong at the end of the season to win the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament for the second straight season.

Ottawa finished third in the KCAC in the regular season.

Ottawa finished 20-14 overall.
