Boys among best in state

The 2013 Ottawa Herald boys cross-country team runners were among the best runners in league, regional and state competition.
The team members are:
Dillon Welch, Jr., Central Heights
Welch turned in a solid season for the Vikings. He became the leader of the team as the season progressed. He finished 11th in the Pioneer League race.
Josh Christian, Soph., Ottawa
Christian gave Ottawa depth in its top five runners. He took 15th at the Frontier League race and 20th in the regional.
Gabe Skoog, Sr., Ottawa
Skoog was a leader for the Cyclones. He was among the leaders in every race. He was 14th in the Frontier League and regional races.
Daniel White, Sr., Ottawa
White has been a solid contributor throughout his career. He was 20th in the league race and 15th at the regional. He is a two-time all-area selection.
Sam White, Jr., Ottawa
White came on strong at the end of the season. He was 11th at the league meet, third at regionals and 27th at the state meet. He is a three-time all-area team.
Brandon Yates, Soph., Ottawa
Yates battled through injuries for most of the season. He led Ottawa at the Frontier League race, finishing 10th. He took ninth at the regional.
He is a two-time all-area selection.
Chase Bouse, Sr., Wellsville
Bouse put together a sterling senior season for the Eagles. He led them in every race. He was the Pioneer League and regional champion. He was the first regional champ in 20 years for the Eagles. He finished eighth at state. His time of 16 minutes, 52.5 seconds at the league race ranked him eighth all-time in school history.
He is a two-time all-area team member.
Brandyn Brewster, Soph., Wellsville
Brewster gave Wellsville a one-two punch at the top of the Eagles line-up. He finished fourth at the Pioneer League and regional races.
Brett Whittington, Jr., West Franklin
Whittington came on strong for the Falcons this season. He finished 13th in the Flint Hills League race.
Isaiah Messick, Soph., West Franklin
Messick grew from his solid freshman campaign. He led the Falcons all season. He was seventh in the Flint Hills League race.
