Seniors lead OHS to third in tourney

WAMEGO — The Ottawa High School wrestling team placed seven in the top four Saturday at the Wamego Invitational.

Ottawa finished third as a team with 198.5 points. Salina Central won the title with 289 and Abilene was second with 235 points.

“We had a great day,” Ottawa coach Joe Tokarz said. “We had six freshmen in our lineup and nine total that wrestled their first varsity matches.”

Veterans Caleb Parenti (170 pounds) and Dalton Weidl (195) led the way. The seniors won all five matches en route to tournament titles.

“Great days by both Caleb Parenti and Dalton Weidl,” Tokarz said. “We are very proud and looking forward to our next matches.”

Senior Brandin Bell (138) was one of four Cyclones to take third with 3-2 records. Others taking third were Drew Nutt (120), Sam Carver (145) and Garrett Gross (182).

Brayden Streeter (160) finished fourth.

Ottawa wrestles Friday and Saturday at the Eudora Invitational.
