Trio of Cyclones place in Eudora Tourney

EUDORA — The Ottawa High School wrestling team held its own Friday and Saturday in the Eudora Tournament of Champions.

Ottawa finished 14th out of 24 teams.

Ottawa finished 14th out of 24 teams.

“This is a two-day tournament that included several of the top-ranked teams and individuals in the state,” Ottawa coach Joe Tokarz said. “This was by far one of the toughest tournaments in the state.

“It was our first year there. We got a great deal of experience.”

Caleb Parenti finished second and Dalton Weidl was third. Drew Nutt took seventh. All three faced state-ranked wrestlers.

Tokarz said all three wrestlers had a great showing at the tournament.

“Drew lost to two highly-ranked wrestlers from Mill Valley and St. Thomas Aquinas,” Tokarz said. “Dalton lost in the semifinals to a ranked wrestler from Mill Valley in the last seconds of the match.

“Caleb lost two times to the No. 1 ranked wrestler from Spring Hill.”

Ottawa wrestles Thursday at Sante Fe Trail and Saturday in the OHS tourney.

120 – Drew Nutt 2-2 (seventh).

126 – Tony Wurtz 0-4.

138 – Jayden Creach 1-2.

145 – Sam Carver 1-2.

152 – Blaine Ray 2-2.

160 – Brayden Streeter 0-4.

170 – Caleb Parenti 4-2 (second).

182 – Garrett Gross 0-2.

195 – Dalton Weidl 7-1 (third).
