The Central Heights High School boys basketball team made strides in most areas Tuesday in a home 48-45 loss to Burlington.

“Defensively we played pretty well for the most part,” Central Heights coach Rusty Cannady said. “It’s tough to tell kids that they did good things after a loss because they are frustrated.

“But I believe we moved a step closer to being better communicators on ‘D’. You need to open your mouth to be a good defensive player.  And we showed signs of doing that.”

The offense was not as crisp.

“Offensively, we are going to struggle,” Cannady said. “Sometimes the ball just will not go in the hole. And when your leading scorer is on the bench with three fouls early, we need someone else to assert themselves.

“Burlington confused our kids from switching to zone, and a triangle in 2, and back to man. They caused us to stand around and look instead of moving the ball from side-to-side and make the ‘D’ shift. It’s easy to guard when the offense stands.”

Jordan Horstick paced the Vikings with 13 points.
