Homolka named a finalist for award

Ottawa University assistant football coach Josh Homolka is one of three finalists for the 2013 Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.

Each year the one assistant coach from the five divisions of college football has been selected for their dedication to their teams and communities. Homolka is a finalist for the NAIA award along with Caroll’s Jim Hogan and Matt McCarty of Northwestern (Iowa).

In his six years as defensive coordinator, Homolka’s defenses have been some of the best in the NAIA, and this past season was no different. The Braves were ranked third in the NAIA in defensive passing efficiency (92.8), 20th in defending the pass (184.3), 23rd in scoring defense (22.6), 29th in total sacks (23), 32nd in opponent fourth down conversion percentage (40.5) and 40th in sacks per game (1.9).
